I watched a programme on United Christian Broadcasters channel called “The Cross and the Towers”. It was about the cross found on the site of ground zero standing upright amongst all the rubble. Many of the rescue workers saw it as a sign of hope that Christ was right in the midst of this awful tragedy. It gave them the courage to carry on. Despite the destruction the loss the pain the suffering there was Christ in the middle of it. Bringing comfort to all those rescue workers who were weary and had almost lost hope.
When we see such disasters the first thought that seems to go through our heads is Where was God? and here is the answer He is there in the midst of it all, bringing hope, restoration, love and compassion to those who are broken-hearted, crushed, weary and fearful. Never to leave us nor forsake us.
How precious is the gift of hope, for without it how can we carry on? That’s exactly why Christ came to give us hope, hope of a better world and a better future. To lift our eyes and look up to Him, the restorer of our faith.
It is a beautiful picture, a beautiful truth for those who have this gift of hope in their hearts.
Heb 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. (Matthew 5:11–12)
