Life is cheap!

On Friday afternoon at 3pm a local man was stabbed to death whilst he was on his way to pick his daughter up from school. It happened on a busy road by the local shops near our home. The two men had got into a fight after their cars had collided, one man had a knife. Fortunately the police managed to get the name of the murderer from the victim before he died and a man has been arrested.

When I had found out that this murder had happened very close by it sent a chill down my spine. It happened in my neighbourhood, a quiet residential suburb and as one witness said “This sort of thing doesn’t happen round here”. It also happened at the busiest time of the day during the school run when lots of people where about. It is simply horrible!

Life is cheap when you carry a knife! and murder becomes a possibility! It appears this man was in a rage and had gone to have a confrontation with his victim. His rage and anger had overtaken any rational thoughts and reasoning and murder had entered his heart. There are many warnings in the bible of where anger and rage come from and where it can lead to if it is not dealt with.

“Let us never forget that our chief danger is from within. The world and the devil combined, cannot do us as much harm as our own hearts will, if we do not watch and pray.” ~ J.C. Ryle

James 4:1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?  You desire but do not have, so you kill.

Psalm 37:8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret–it leads only to evil.

Mark 7:21 “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
