Humility at Christmas

I wanted to do a Christmas post so here it is. I was listening to a message by John MacArthur called the Theology of Christmas taken from Philippians 2 about Christs humility. Which you can listen to here. I was struck by the end of his message with v9: Therefore God has highly exalted and bestowed on him the name that is above every name so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father.

“It is better to confess that Jesus is Lord here on the earth than to confess it in hell! Even in hell Jesus is Lord and those in hell know that. Better to confess Jesus as Lord forever in heaven than forever in hell full of bitterness and remorse.”

I don’t really think of hell, it’s a hard concept to grasp and beyond my understanding. But here I had a picture of  Christopher Hitchens (atheist) who died recently and the realisation that now he knows the truth and it’s too late! What he wouldn’t confess on earth he now has to confess in Hell!! That’s quite a thought. Non believers think that death is the end of it all, but it’s not. One day they will know and confess Jesus as Lord and if it’s not here on earth then it will be in hell!! That’s what struck me!!

We get so caught up in the tinsel and presents and eating. Let us remember the real reason for this season and to share it with humility to those who without Christ will perish.
