The heart of man

Listening today to the first of the accused rioters in court it becomes clear that this outbreak had nothing to do with the impoverished, the crushed, the hopeless. It was clear that it was all to do with opportunism and the deceitful heart of man, no matter who they were; a postman, a student a child? (here)

No doubt from this there will be endless discussions on the reason and the cure for these riots, but unless we see the true cause of this we will never cure it!

The bible clearly states that the heart of man is deceptive above all.

Jer17:9  The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? ESV

Mark 7:21-23 For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean.'”

There is only one person who truly knows our hearts condition and the only one who can judge it fairly? You may be able to hide it from others but there is no hiding place from God who sees and knows all about us.

Jer 17:10 But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”

Numbers 32:23 Be sure your sin will find you out

The cure too is simple but may not be easy for us. It means recognising and turning from our sinful ways, allowing God to forgive us and cleanse us through His son Jesus.

Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Simply put, the problem of our sick society is in the heart of man and the cure lies at the cross.
