Greedy Facebook

The article that caught my attention today is Mr Zuckerberg thinks children need Facebook!!! What I think he means is, he needs children to make Facebook more lucrative and that smells of greed.

I have to accept now that common sense is no longer part of our normal everyday life and children need protection from the evils of this world. There are many reasons in my mind why Facebook is not the place for children and I would like to think the average person would also agree. Claire Perry, Conservative MP for Devizes, who has campaigned for online safety, said that ““I would be very uncomfortable about extending this and I think it’s very, very irresponsible of Facebook to be suggesting it.”

Facebook is a bad idea for kids :

1) Unsafe is the obvious risk here. (Predators!)

2)Children need to get out to play for physical exercise and social interaction with other kids. Helps their development and confidence.

3)Facebook is not a place for education. The education available on Facebook is more negative than positive. Having access to many different inappropriate groups. Older peers who would have a negative influence for younger kids. ie: references to drinking excessively amongst other things, bad language, bad spelling, etc.

4) Online bullying. “Online bullying is particularly prevalent on social networks”. NSPCC’s policy spokesperson. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre revealed last year that complaints about grooming and bullying on Facebook had quadrupled in the preceding twelve months.

Let children be children, they will have the choice when they are older to join Facebook! Don’t be greedy Mr Zuckerberg! I think the world needs to be educated on what it is to be a child. Children need safe boundaries, good role models and love to grow up into well-adjusted adults.

Facebook is not a necessary learning experience that would benefit a child.

Prov 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Matt 18:6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
